School Mass

End of School Mass June 23rd 2017:


Our End of Year Mass was celebrated by Fr. Gerry MC Cormack in the school on the 23rd June at 2 pm. Present were parents, pupils of the school .

Sean Walsh accompanied the children on the keyboard as they entertained the gathering with some lovely tunes on the tin whistle through out the service.

Fr. Gerry wished the pupils in 6th class every success and happiness in the years ahead as they begin life in secondary school.

Jackie Ward thanked all the pupils and parents for their support throughout the year.She thanked the staff for their work in the school over the past year . She also thanked Ms. Fitzpatrick for acting principle for through out the year and Mrs. Mc Eneany for teaching the pupils in the senior room. She thanked the Parents Association for all their help and support during the year.

Presentations were made to the 6th class pupils who received a certificate and a voucher for Easons to mark the occasion of their leaving.

A bouquet of flowers  was presented to Aine Mc Eneany and Breda Fitzpatrick for all their help on behalf of the school. When all was finished we enjoyed a cup of tea and a chat.

Our End of Year Mass was celebrated by Fr. Seamus Cassidy in the school on Thursday 23rd June at 2pm. Rosena Jordan, president of the INTO and former teacher in the school from 1983 until 2004, was present along with Roisin Hughes, Chairperson of the Board of Management, and Fr. Mark English, school chaplain. Also present were parents, pupils and past pupils of the school including some who attended school with Fr. Seamus away back in the forties. He was delighted to see them there.


Sean Walsh accompanied the children on the keyboard as they entertained the gathering with some lovely tunes on the tin whistle before mass began. After Mass Fr. Seamus spoke of his delight to be back in Carrickleck school after so many years. He formally blessed the school and its pupils and staff. He wished the pupils in 6th class every success and happiness in the years ahead as they begin life in secondary school. He also congratulated Micheál and Catherine Kieran on their retirement from the school after so many years and wished them many years of good health and happiness.

Micheál Kieran thanked all present for their attendance and good wishes. He thanked his close family and extended family for all their support, help and encouragement over all his 46 years teaching and especially during his 33 years in Carrickleck school. He said that the pupils of the school were always his inspiration and focus and he asked them to continue to be the best they can be for Ms. Fitzpatrick and the new principal from next September. He thanked all his teaching colleagues for their dedication and hard work in the school. He thanked Margaret Duff for her teaching and commitment to the pupils in the school for the past 11 years and wished her well in her full time role in Kingscourt school from next September. He also thanked Sandra Clarke for her work in the school over the past year and a half. a bouquet of flowers and a gift was presented towho had been busy preparing for the day and had laid on a beautiful buffet to be enjoyed at the conclusion of the day. He thanked Fr. Seamus for offering the Mass and wished Fr. Mark every blessing as he leaves the parish after his work in the parish over the past year.

Presentations were made to the 6th class pupils who received a certificate and an engraved pen to mark the occasion of their leaving; Fr. Seamus was presented with a card and gift as a memento of the day; a bouquet of flowers and a gift was presented to Margaret Duff on behalf of the pupils and staff of the school; a bouquet of flowers and a gift was presented to Catherine Kieran on behalf of the Parents Association; a picture of the school painted by a parent and a framed series of photographs of the pupils with their autographs attached among other gifts were presented to Micheál Kieran on behalf of the pupils and parents by the Parents Association.





When all was finished, photographs were taken and all present went to enjoy the beautiful food and continue with the chat.





Many thanks to all for making it a wonderful and memorable day in the life of the school and a day that I will always remember on a personal level.
